Oakland is in California, on the West Coast, where the climate ranges from foggy coast to hot inland valleys, wildfire season can affect air quality in late summer, and traffic is the main thing to plan around. Getting around Oakland is easiest by car; street parking is metered in busy downtown areas, and most suburban businesses have their own lot. Ride-share apps such as Uber and Lyft operate across California's larger cities, and public transit varies from extensive to minimal.

Gotta hand it to these small batch, handcrafted, artisanal, lactose free, ice cream makers who switch up their menu every week. Well done. I sampled a Mick Jagger, which was intense Take a leap of faith and ordered a kids cup of the passionfruit curd Sweet, textured, unique, and took me over 30 minutes to go through it because I savored every spoon 5/5. No notes. Will return.

Everything at this ice cream shop is lactose free. Everything. It is my adult daughter who is lactose intolerant, and she rarely has choices of what to have at an ice cream shop. Itβs usually whatever sorbet they might have. But somehow bad Walters uses all lactose free cream and milk products to make their incredibly good ice cream. I frankly canβt remember when Iβve had better! And this is an excellent thing because the price of it is eye watering. I spent $57 for 4 pints. Yep, youβve read that right. That is $14.25 per pint. I knew already that my daughter feels the ice cream is extraordinarily good, but I also realize that it was possible that she had allowed the fact that she could eat it without causing gastric problems to influence her evaluation. But it was her birthday and I had been wanting to try it so I went. I bought two identical pairs of pints for us β one for her kitchen and one for mine. I bought 2 pints of Hokey Pokey and 2 pints of POG. I have not yet tried the POG (passionfruit, orange, guava) but I can tell you that the Honey okey Pokey was unbelievably good. It was a very rich & creamy vanilla ice cream with pieces of honeycomb stirred in. Honeycomb is one of

Bad Walter's Bootleg Ice Cream β hands down one of the best ice cream spots in the Bay. This Rockridge spot in Oakland is doing something special. They make handcrafted, maximalist flavors with lactose-free dairy and the creativity is next level. Flavors rotate weekly so every visit feels fresh. I went for the Campfire (their famous one) and it was insane β rich, complex, and smells like youβre actually sitting by a bonfire. The texture is super creamy and smooth. Also tried a couple other rotating flavors and they were all packed with big bold tastes without being overly sweet. Everything feels high quality and fun. The shop has that cool 90s kitsch vibe inspired by their grouchy dog Walter, which makes it even more enjoyable. Staff is friendly and the portions are generous for the price. It can get busy with lines forming quick especially on nights and weekends, but itβs worth it. Parking in Rockridge is doable but can be tricky during peak times. If youβre into creative, high-end ice cream that actually delivers on flavor, this is the spot. Easily one of my new favorites in the Bay.

I have a severe intolerance for lactose and I can confirm this ice cream will NOT bother you. The flavors and delicious, the service is out of this world. I drove almost two hours to get this ice cream and will be doing it again

Truly a phenomenal place for creamy ice cream that has a hint of alcohol. As one can tell by the name, they have very fun ice cream flavors at reasonable prices! They had a carrot cake flavor that I really liked and thought was amazing. There is a multi-use bathroom in the back with a few seats inside and small outdoor tables with foldable chairs.
